Can you buy off brand Vertuo pods?
Unlike the original line of Nespresso pods, the VertuoLine design is proprietary and protected by a legal patent. This means that third-party pod manufacturers (like us) are unable to design a similar style of pod. For Vertuo pods you either order online or through the app, or you need to visit one of their boutiques if you have one nearby. Is Starbucks the only company that makes Vertuo pods?
Only Nespresso is allowed to make Vertuo pods. The Starbucks ones are made by Nespresso as well. Coffee capsules are often more expensive because of their convenience. These coffee capsules are often made out of non-recyclable materials. Some of the flavors taste much weaker than others, so you’ll have to experiment until you find the right flavor for you.The barcoded nature of the capsules means that you are limited regarding choice. The patented capsules exclude the possibility of trying coffee pods from brands other than Nespresso.
Why is it so hard to find Vertuo pods?
Many people ask us this question, which is why we wanted to clarify things in this short blog post. It’s important to know that Nespresso® currently holds a patent on Vertuo-compatible capsules (at least until July 21, 2029). This means that, unfortunately, it is not possible to produce them—at least for now. Nespresso Vertuo pods are wider and feature more of a dome-like shape than the original capsules. Can you put other pods in Nespresso Vertuo?

While this does not apply to the nespresso vertuo machine, the nespresso original line and its alternatives are able to accommodate plenty of different branded pods.The reason you won’t find Vertuo pods from third-party sellers is because Nespresso patented Vertuo-compatible pods until mid-2029. Can I use Starbucks pods in Nespresso Vertuo Next?
The good news is that thanks to a partnership between both companies, all Nespresso-branded machines — both original and Vertuo — are compatible with Starbucks pods.
