Why do people like the Moccamaster so much?
In my experience, many drip coffee makers tend to brew a burnt- or bitter-tasting cup. The Moccamaster, on the other hand, brews the coffee at an ideal temperature so that it doesn’t burn the grounds or lose the flavor of the beans, according to the brand. Too coarse: If your grind is too coarse, the water will rush through the coffee bed too quickly. This short contact time isn’t enough to extract the deep, sweet flavors, resulting in a classic case of weak, under-extracted coffee. This is the most common reason for a weak brew in a Moccamaster. In my experience, many drip coffee makers tend to brew a burnt- or bitter-tasting cup. Under-extraction can occur if your coffee is ground too coarsely and/or unevenly. For the Moccamaster, we recommend a medium-coarse grind, which should look like coarse sand or sea salt.
Why does Moccamaster taste better?
The special feature of the Moccamaster is the brewing process, which gently extracts the coffee. In the process, it evenly infuses the coffee powder with 96°C hot water through nine fine valves. This is clearly evident in the taste. The Moccamaster excels at flawlessly executing the fundamentals, while the pour-over offers a higher ceiling for customization and perfection. The choice between them often comes down to prioritizing consistency and convenience versus ultimate control and ritual.
