In 1971, Starbucks opened their first store in Seattle’s Pike Place Market. The three Starbucks founders had two things in common: they were all coming from academia, and they all loved coffee and tea.It was founded by business partners Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl and Gordon Bowker who first met as students at the University of San Francisco. The trio were inspired to sell high-quality coffee beans and equipment by coffee roasting entrepreneur Alfred Peet.The first Starbucks to sell brewed coffee opened in 1982. Howard Schultz (b. Starbucks opened its first espresso bar in 1984. In 1987 Baldwin and Bowker (Siegl had sold his shares in 1980) sold Starbucks to a group of investors led by Schultz.
