Where does Devoción coffee come from?
You’ve been drinking months-old coffee, but Devoción is changing that. Sourced from Colombia and roasted in Brooklyn, our coffee goes from origin to cup as fast as 10 days. Founded in 2006 by Colombian-born Steven Sutton, Devoción rethought the traditional coffee supply chain by sourcing exclusively from Colombia and dramatically reducing the time between harvest and roasting – often to just days rather than months.
What makes Devoción coffee unique?
SS: We are the only coffee roaster that roasts only fresh green coffee beans; the industry standard for specialty coffee is around 6-month-old green beans. Our standard is 10-day-old green coffee beans freshly roasted, thus, we are the only farm-to-table coffee roasters in the world with, by far, the freshest coffee. A fun coffee fact is the 15-15-15 rule — green (unroasted) beans stay fresh for 15 months, roasted beans peak in flavor in 15 days, and ground coffee should be brewed within 15 minutes. Coffee is a food product that degrades through oxidation.Assuming it’s kept in a cool, dry place, coffee is usually safe to drink for six months after roasting. It won’t taste as good as it originally did, but you can still brew it. Of course, you don’t have to drink old coffee. There are many creative ways to use up beans that have been lying around for several months.
