From a budget perspective, the savings are real . Buying a good bag of ground coffee is significantly cheaper than accumulating Tassimo pods. In just a few months, I had already recouped the cost of my purchase of reusable capsules. No. All manufactured wholesale coffee pods and capsules are single-use only. There are several reasons for this, but the main factor is that there simply isn’t any coffee left to extract if you try to brew your capsule again.In recent years, some third-party manufacturers have attempted to design reusable coffee capsules – with varying levels of success. But when it comes to pre-packaged coffee pods and capsules, there’s no getting past it: you simply can’t use them more than once.The coffee used in pods is often roasted and ground months before you use it – meaning a coffee brewed from a coffee pod is less healthy than a coffee brewed with freshly roasted and ground beans. It’s a similar story with potential contaminants that can find their way into your coffee.Capsule coffee machines are great for their ease of use, customisable options and minimal clean up requirements. However, this comes at a small cost, as they can be expected to last for around 4 – 6 years.This means that if you reuse it, the machine won’t be able to generate enough pressure to extract coffee properly in the first place.
