What is the difference between V60 and clever drip?
The Clever Dripper is much more of a “set it and forget it” way to brew coffee. It is an immersion brewer, which differs from the V60’s pour over system. With the V60, you will need to pay close attention to your pouring techniques to maximize extraction and control your water flow. The name V60 comes from the V-shape of the conical dripper with a 60° angle. Cloth drip coffee became popular throughout Europe around 1763. The V60 resembles the shape of the cloth drip, which has a long-established history. The V60 is arguably the most impressive brewing device ever invented for filter coffee. It is a product of Japanese culture, where (gravity) brewing is central to their drinking culture and often seen as the drink of connoisseurs.I wish I had tried this before I bought an origami dripper, but Kalita 185 filters work nicely with the V60-02. I’ve brewed some amazing Kenyan cups today this way and wanted to encourage others to try and share their experience.
Is the V60 being discontinued?
In 2021, Volvo announced the death of the standard V60 wagon, leaving just the plug-in hybrid Polestar and the Cross Country; the Polestar met the same fate in early 2025. The standard V90 died in 2021, as well, though its Cross Country variant managed to last a good while, with its cancellation announced in late 2025. The answer to this question depends on your needs and preferences. The Volvo V90 Cross Country offers a larger interior and a more powerful base engine, while the Volvo V60 Cross Country gets slightly better fuel economy.
Why is V60 expensive?
In many instances, the price you see is attributed to nothing more than the stylishness and elaborateness of the device in question. Truth is, a basic Hario V60 made by the device’s original manufacturer will produce just as good results as a V60 costing three, four or five times as much. The Hario company, founded in Japan in 1921, invented the V60 in the 1950s.
