Unless you are chasing extreme clarity and flavor separation, I’d highly recommend the Fellow Ode Gen 2 with the stock burrs. Nick put a lot of work into those burrs. I had the Ode gen 1 for a long time and recently upgraded to the Gen 2. The Gen 2 burrs are fantastic and will extract any coffee very well. Having used many coffee grinders in similar price ranges and grinders that cost thousands of dollars, I have to say that the Fellow Ode is a great deal. I use it for brew more but I’ve done a fair amount of espresso over the past 2 or so years. No issues with the motor, though I will say it’s not wonderful for espresso (as one would expect, it’s not designed for espresso). The increments aren’t quite fine enough and I imagine there’s a fair bit of retention/exchange. While the ideal pressure for brewing espresso is around 9 bars, a machine with a higher rating, like a 19-bar Italian pump, offers distinct advantages.
