Is Hario made in Japan?
Our only factory is in Japan. Our factory has no smokestacks because we melt raw materials with electricity. This unique technology — the first of its kind in Japan — is cleaner and safer for the surrounding community and workers in the factory. Learn more about where HARIO glass was born. HARIO is the only heatproof glass manufacturer in Japan with their own factory. We started out manufacturing laboratory glassware. In 1948, we expanded our production to household items, starting with the coffee siphon.
Why is it called Hario V60?
The name V60 comes from the V-shape of the conical dripper with a 60° angle. Why V60? V stands for cone-shaped filers, whereas 60 represents the sloping angle of the dripper’s sides. Simple! This dripper was brought to the coffee geeks’ attention by the third-wave coffee revolution, which is all about quality coffee and pour-over methods in place of espresso italiano. What sets the V60 apart from other coffee drippers? The V60’s distinctive cone shape allows the layers of coffee grounds to become thicker than on the flat surface of a traditional trapezoid-shaped dripper.
