Is a venti coffee too much caffeine?
The FDA recommends adults limit daily caffeine to 400 mg. Most Starbucks drinks land between 100-200 mg per serving, but some, like the Veranda Blend, can shoot up to 475 mg in a Venti. Why is it called Venti?
A hot venti beverage contains 20 ounces of coffee—in fact, the word venti means 20 in Italian. The cold venti is slightly larger, at 24 ounces. Both cups are noticeably tall and a bit more ungainly to carry around, something to bear in mind if you’re on the go. Tall and grande hot drinks have the same number of ounces (12 and 16, respectively) and same number of pumps (three and four), and a hot venti contains 20 ounces and five pumps of syrup.A Venti Hot has two espresso shots. A Venti Iced has three espresso shots. A Grande has… also two espresso shots. So, depending on what you order, a Venti might have more liquid but not more caffeine.Keep in mind that there are only five pumps in a venti hot drink, compared to six in the iced. And, if six pumps of syrup still seem like too much to you, remember you can customize your Starbucks order however you’d like by requesting fewer pumps or a sugar-free option.
