Is the Azera still in production?
After the launch of the separate Genesis brand, the Grandeur/Azera resumed its place as the company’s flagship. As of the 2017 model year, the Azera is no longer marketed in the United States and Canada. The sedan continues to be available in South Korea and the Middle East. From 1986 to 1996, the Grandeur was a flagship car for Hyundai’s South Korean lineup before the Hyundai Dynasty came out. The Grandeur has evolved through five generations with intermediate restylings, and is marketed under various nameplates worldwide—prominently as the Hyundai Azera (현대 아제라, Ajera).
Why was Azera discontinued?
Part of the reason behind the Azera’s lagging sales came from the fact it was squeezed in both size and price by the midsize Sonata and the premium-branded Genesis G80 (formerly the Hyundai Genesis Sedan). The Azera clearly outperforms the Sonata when it comes to raw power. It is equipped with a 3. V6 engine that delivers 294 horsepower and 359 Nm of torque, offering smooth and strong performance on highways and long distance routes.
