How does Podback make money?

What happens to the pods collected by Podback?
First the pods are shredded to remove the coffee, then the empty pods are reprocessed to be used in the manufacture of new products. Coffee grounds are sent for anaerobic digestion, a process that creates renewable energy (biogas) and soil improver. As Nespresso writes on their FAQ page, there are no BPAs in their pods. However, it is possible that piercing an aluminum pod and pouring hot water through it could leach chemicals into coffee. If customers ingest enough of these chemicals, they can cause endocrine disruption and other toxic effects.Every one of Nespresso’s pods contains absolutely no plastic, so you can guarantee that harmful chemicals aren’t compromising your morning drink.In the case of coffee pods, the amount of aluminum that could potentially leach into the coffee during brewing is minimal. Non-plastic coffee pods are often lined with a food-grade coating, which prevents direct contact between the coffee grounds and the aluminum itself.
