Do AeroPress filters affect the taste?
Some sensitive tasters find the natural filters give a papery taste and choose the white filters. The micro-sized hole gaps in the paper fibers hold back large grounds and most of the oils and finest particles. You can expect the cup to have a fairly clear flavor and a light body. Traditional methods using glass or stainless steel elements significantly reduce the presence of these particles compared to appliances with plastic parts. While paper filters can assist in filtering microplastics, the key lies in choosing materials that do not leach these particles during the brewing process. The AeroPress Stainless Steel Filter allows oils to pass through for a somewhat fuller-bodied cup of coffee, whereas the paper micro-filter keeps out those oils for a smoother, grit-free flavor profile. Whichever filter you use, you’re sure to make a delicious cup!
Should I double filter AeroPress?
If you want to get more of the flowery flavours out of your light-roast coffee beans I recommend taking 2 or even 3 of the AeroPress filter papers. Flavor Technology Part French Press, part Pour-Over, part Espresso, AeroPress combines all three and uses air pressure and micro-filtration to brew faster so coffee doesn’t over-extract, giving you a well‑balanced cup with bold flavor and zero grit. Some espresso machines boast pressure ratings of 20 bars or more. While these high numbers might seem impressive, they don’t necessarily translate to better espresso. The key is not the maximum pressure but the machine’s ability to maintain a steady 9 bars during extraction.
Should I use 1 or 2 filters for AeroPress?
Adding two filters during your brew is one of the easiest hacks with the AeroPress. Using a double filter has two main benefits: 1) It can create a cleaner final cup of coffee, and 2) can slightly prevent unwanted dripping during brewing because of the thicker paper. Drawback. There aren’t many downsides to the Aeropress but if I have to find some, it would be amount of brewing techniques and recipes available -it can be overwhelming finding a recipe that works for you. Another possible downside is its limited brewing capacity.
How many times can you reuse AeroPress filters?
Some people reuse aeropress filters dozens of times. When finished with a pressing, peel off the filter from the puck of coffee, rinse it, and place it in the filter cap to dry in position for use with the next pressing. A common complaint among new brewers is that their aeropress coffee tastes too sour or too bitter. And, no one wants to drink a funky cup of coffee first thing in the morning. A quick and simple way to fix a sour or bitter tasting coffee is to adjust the grind size. A general rule of thumb is: sour coffee = grind finer. If your coffee tastes bitter you’re probably extracting too much flavour (‘over extracting’). Try grinding your coffee a bit coarser or, if that isn’t an element you can control, start plunging your Aeropress earlier (leaving the grounds in immersion for a shorter time). The key is to slowly add small amounts of salt (we’re talking a couple tiny particles at a time) until the bitterness is balanced out. We strongly suggest you try fixing bitter coffee by grinding coarser, brewing shorter, and using top quality water first. It is very important to stop pressing when (or right before) the water is out of the AeroPress. If you hear a hissing noise, or if you can visually tell that it is at the end (as shown), you should stop pressing. Continuing past this point would squeeze bitterness out of the coffee grounds.
