Education Level Many ambassadors have university degrees, usually in subjects like: International Relations Political Science Law Economics Public Administration History Higher degrees (Master’s / PhD) are common, but not always required. All nominations to become ambassador on behalf of the United States to a foreign country or international organization are made by the President of the United States. Each individual must be confirmed by the United States Senate.
