Why is it so hard to find Nespresso Vertuo pods?
The Vertuo system is still under a patent, so there are no third party pods. You will not see any until ~2030. Until then, your only options will remain Nespresso pods, which includes the Starbucks branded pods, which are actually produced by Nespresso under a licensing agreement. A new class action lawsuit alleges Nespresso sold Vertuo Next coffee machines that leak water after normal use, making them unusable. Plaintiff Denise Fahey-Ramirez claims Nespresso’s Vertuo Next coffee machines, marketed as the most versatile model for the popular Nespresso Vertuo brewing system, are defective.Due to their specific barcoding and the fact that the particular dome-like shape that characterises nespresso vertuo pods was patented by nespresso, production of pods that emulate nespresso vertuo pods by companies outside of nespresso is not possible.The most obvious reason is that Vertuo pods are designed to brew larger cup sizes, such as a full mug or even a carafe. As such, they tend to be larger and contain more coffee grounds (and thus, more caffeine per pod).Vertuo pods are only available via Nespresso or Amazon (at a hefty price) in the UK.I love that I can get Nespresso Vertuo pods via Costco! The Starbucks assortment of pods are so delicious and convenient! This is a luxury item for me so a bit of a splurge price wise but worth it.
