Reusable filters, such as stainless steel or gold-tone filters, can be cleaned and used indefinitely, while paper filters need to be discarded after a single use. For single-serve machines like Keurig, filters should be changed every 3-4 months for optimal performance. By design, you can clean some types of filters. These are permanent or semipermanent filters and can hold up to water and cleaning. Most filters, however, are disposable and should not get wet.
