What is the AeroPress Original made of?
The chamber and plunger are made of translucent plastic. Early AeroPress models used clear polycarbonate, but in 2009 switched to BPA-free copolyester, then in 2014 to polypropylene. At last, AeroPress offered a brewing system that’s totally free of plastic. The chamber that holds the water is heat-proof clear borosilicate glass, like European Pyrex. The tube you use to apply pressure is made of aluminum. The cap that holds the filter (paper or metal) is stainless steel.

AeroPress was acquired in summer 2021 by Tiny Ltd. Tiny is led by it’s co-founders Chris Sparling and Andrew Wilkinson (a former barista and long-time AeroPress fan). In 2019, they released the AeroPress Go, a travel-sized model with a reduced capacity, smaller accessories which assemble inside of a plastic mug with a lid. In August 2021, Canadian holding company Tiny Capital bought a controlling stake in AeroPress Inc. Over the next few years, AeroPress Inc.
What’s so special about AeroPress?
Short Brew Time = Low Bitterness Here’s the sciencey bit: AeroPress brews in just 1 to 2 minutes, depending on your recipe. That’s way shorter than a French press (4–6 minutes) or drip machine (around 5 minutes). Your Aeropress should be pretty hard to plunge, taking around 30 seconds to depress fully. If the pressure inside the Aeropress becomes too great you may find it nearly impossible to press down though – try grinding your coffee coarser to slow down the extraction.Your entire press should take about 30 seconds to finish. It is very important to stop pressing when (or right before) the water is out of the AeroPress. If you hear a hissing noise, or if you can visually tell that it is at the end (as shown), you should stop pressing.
