What’s so special about Nespresso Vertuo?

How is vertuo different from other coffees, like filter or instant? You can precisely prepare your small or large coffee with generous and silky crema, as each Vertuo machines uses barcode recognition and a brewing extraction system to create your coffee experience. Nope. Nespresso sells totally separate machines for its original line and Vertuo coffee capsules. The capsules are different in size, shape and function, meaning there’s no way to use them interchangeably. On a Nespresso® U model, there are three different buttons / cup sizes to choose from – Lungo, Espresso or Ristretto. We recommend a cup size of 100 ml for a Lungo, 40 ml for an Espresso and 25 ml for a Ristretto.

Why is Nespresso Vertuo coffee so bitter?

Each Nespresso capsule is created to be extracted at a certain level. Past that, it will stop producing flavour and start to burn – meaning your coffee will taste bitter. To help you extract at the recommended level every time, Original coffee capsules have the recommended extraction size shown on the coffee sleeve. The water you use for your Nespresso machine is usually tap water and therefore contains lime. Over time, it leaves limescale deposits in your coffee machine, which can greatly affect the taste of your coffee.

How does my Nespresso Vertuo know cup size?

The drink size of each pod is specific to each capsule type dictated by that special barcode on the pod; there’s Alto, Mug, Gran Lungo, Double Espresso or Espresso. But you can alter this on your machine if you want and the machine will store it as a new saved preference. If you double tap the brew button on your Nespresso machine, it gives you a ristretto on espresso sizes, a double espresso on mug sizes and a single espresso on all other sizes. Each Nespresso pod is meant for single use. Re-using a Nespresso pod for a second brewing will produce a significantly weaker and diluted cup of coffee with less flavour and aroma.
