Founded by Lutherans in the United States at the end of World War II, grounded in Lutheran theology and building on decades of experience, Lutheran World Relief (LWR) tackles global poverty by helping people adapt to the challenges that threaten their livelihoods and well-being. Lutheran World Relief receives funding from individuals, congregations and congregational groups in addition to support by three major Lutheran church bodies: the North American Lutheran Church (NALC), the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) World Hunger Appeal.World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to boldly engage the world’s greatest crises in partnership with the church.
